The mission of the Missouri State Board of Nursing is to protect the public by development and enforcement of state laws governing the safe practice of nursing. The Nurse Practice Act (NPA) exists to govern and regulate the profession of licensed nurses, set standards for the approval of nursing schools in Missouri, determine the scope of practice of licensed nurses, and define who may use the title of registered nurse (R.N.) and licensed practical nurse (L.P.N.) within the State of Missouri. Rules are promulgated to provide guidance for the Board to carry out the mandate of the NPA. |

Missouri Statute 191.277 This statute requires that all physicians, chiropractors, hospitals, dentists, and other duly licensed practitioners (providers) in the state shall, upon written request of a patient, or guardian or legally authorized representative of a patient, furnish a copy of his or her record of that patient's health history and treatment rendered to the person submitting a written request. Revision Effective August 28, 2011 If the health care provider stores records in an electronic or digital format, and provides the requested records and affidavit, if requested, in an electronic or digital format, that provider may not charge the person requesting more than $5.50/page or $25 dollars total, whichever is less. State Supreme Court Schedules Oral Arguments For Tort Reform Case Go to site |
The Missouri Supreme Court scheduled oral arguments for Watts v. Cox at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 27, in Jefferson City. This case challenges the limitations on damages, as passed in the 2005 tort reform legislation. MHA, along with several other organizations, filed amici briefs supporting the hospital.
